Groove, Holmes

Master composer and electro musician David Holmes hits a game-winning grand slam with this double LP compilation (un)remix album titled, Come Get It I Got It. Released back in ’02 from over the pond in the UK, this album is a DJ’s dream (not that I know from experience), and is perfect for casual, groove-heavy, atmosphere-creating chill-out sessions of any and every variety. Obviously coming highly recommended, Come Get It I Got It all but fell into my lap at a dirt cheap price some several years back. Acquired at a small clothing / record store (somewhere) in the valley, CGIIGI was stuffed into a small crate alongside other DJ singles and remix albums. If you can find it, don’t hesitate.

Biafra Marathon

Witnessing Jello Biafra’s spoken word performance at Madison, Wisconsin’s Barrymore Theatre was something of a marathon… to say the very least. I’m happy to have experienced this entertaining sprint, though the unexpected 4+ hours eclipsed the rest of our evening’s planned activities. All of this is irrelevant, of course, because we were told, firsthand, about the brutal and legal-laden break-up of the Dead Kennedys. If invited to do it all again, I’d probably say yes, which is what you should say if you see Jello’s name pop up on one of your local theater fliers. The man is a legend, a pissed off legend, but certainly worthy of the nominal cover charge.

Sphinctour

It’s been raining Ministry here lately. First was Animositisomina (originally released on compact disc in ’03), followed by this, 2002’s Sphinctour (getting the first-ever vinyl treatment earlier this year… like three weeks ago…), and finally, another first-ever-on-vinyl-blah-blah, 2004’s Houses of the MolĂ©. All three were necessary acquisitions, and I’m now in possession of every studio Ministry album from 1983’s With Sympathy to 2006’s Rio Grande Blood (12 albums in total). Its the simple things, really.

Monkey?

A shameful reveal here… I didn’t realize that when I purchased Dan the Automator’s 2002 comp, Wanna Buy A Monkey? that it was, in fact, actually, “selections” from the full CD version of this catch-all release. I mean, honestly, we’re only talking about like, four tracks, but still… I should be happy for the vinyl opportunity, but still feel a bit short-changed. Anyway, ignore me. You have your own problems to worry about.
